About Us
We Are vNotes USA
Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery, or vNOTES, is one of the greatest advances in the field of gynecologic surgery in recent history. As the body of vNOTES surgeons in the United States continues to grow, the need for collaboration is greater than ever. By joining together, we can increase our knowledge, share techniques, and continue to improve our profession.
A group of gynecologic surgeons from the United States, including several vNOTES USA members and Board of Directors, traveled to Belgium in 2019 to train under the direction of Jan Baekelandt, and they brought home this technique. The FDA approved a multichannel single-site access system for vNOTES surgery in November of 2019.
vNOTES USA was founded in 2020 to provide its members with resources and support, such as education, credentialing, billing and payer issues, research needs and more.

What is vNOTES Surgery?
vNOTES is a surgical technique by which the vagina (a natural orifice) is used as the entry point for laparoscopic procedures, such as hysterectomy and other gynecologic surgery. This avoids incisions on the patient’s abdominal wall for laparoscopic access, thus leading to less pain, quicker recovery time, and improved cosmetic results for patients.
The technique uses a patented device to enable access into the peritoneal cavity through the vagina, obviating the need for external incisions. It effectively combines the best aspects of vaginal surgery and laparoscopic techniques. vNOTES surgery can be used for:
- Hysterectomy
- Fallopian tube or ovarian procedure
- Salpingectomy
- Pelvic organ prolapse repair
vNOTES represents an important advance in the evolution of gynecologic surgery. Our society is thrilled to help specialists become proficient in its use for better practice success and improved patient outcomes.

What guides us as a society
vNOTES USA is a collaboration of gynecologic surgeons dedicated to the rebirth of vaginal surgery. We believe that through the vNOTES technique, we can accomplish this goal and thus improve patients’ lives. We are dedicated to promoting vNOTES via the training of surgeons, education of patients, and partnerships with other healthcare organizations.
Who is vNOTES?
Our Board of Directors is a group of vNOTES specialists regularly employing this revolutionary surgical technique in their own practices and offering their expertise to other like-minded surgeons. They are dedicated to the safe advancement of vNOTES surgery in the United States by organizing events and developing educational resources that meet the needs of our members.
